En este punto, el óleo es tosco y solamente se pueden apreciar los bloques que delinean el color. Uno o dos días después se seca, y el pintor comienza a trabajar en la segunda capa. Usualmente una reproducción cobra vida cuando se termina la tercera capa, siempre y cuando no hagan falta correcciones.
